keep in mind that it is a language that you dont know and you have to read the subtitles anyway.

I can't watch the movies without the volume up. It is not just the meaning that you get from their words, it is the tone of their voice that could deliver a message. Besides, there are some other sound effects and ambient voices you would miss.

I enjoy the language, especially for French and Chinese films, the inflections in the voice. And although the subtitles give the dialog, it in no way shows the emotions emitted in language, and that is the core of acting. Imagine watching a horror movie that you couldn't hear the breathing or screams.

The only reason I would put the volume up would be to make sure I heard the words correctly. I understand French, Spanish, and Italian, but I need to hear all the words. If it's in Russian, Dutch, etc..... then no, I will read the subtitles.

I need to have the volume up...You miss out on the whole "feeling" of the movie..It would be just like watching a movie in english and having it on mute with subtitles..You dont know how they are saying it or whatever...I

Yes, because a movie is more than just dialogue. Watching "Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon" with the volume down, I would have missed the enchanting music score.
