I have a older laptop, which is windows 95. Every time i turn it on it starts up fine but right when it is about to login it goes to blank screen and says ''Windows protection error please restart your computer''. and of course the only thing i can do is push the power button. Then if i turn it on again it says improper shutdown detected then i am able to login in safe mode.
My Question is; is there anything i can do in safe mode to fix the problem, maybe somthing i can delete or some settings i can change that will fix the problem. If not, how can i restore the computer to factory settings, For that would most likely correct the problem. I very much appreciate any answers. thankyou for your time.

Wow you have an old laptop. I am so happy Microsoft has improved with their operating system (my luck i suppose, if anyone disagrees) since Windows 95. Windows 95 was infamous for always screwing up on people - especially me. Personally, I would just buy a newer computer or if you can't afford a brand new computer buy a newer used one. At least make it one with Windows XP or you could even scrap Windows 95 and install some sort of version of Linux OS on there.

But if you want to fix it I did find a Microsoft website you can go to help you out. And just as I figure before I researched this information it could be a myriad of things. Anywhere from the registry being damaged to a virus or something worse like issues with your hardware. Listed below is a website you can go to help you out. I hope this helps you out as you didn't go into greater detail about what the error message said. Then again maybe that's all Windows 95 gave you that you noticed. It wouldn't surprise me. If I was Microsoft I would've been embarrassed as that program had so many glitches and they never put a lot of effort into fixing all of them.

Try the following:

- Check the hard drive for any error (chkdsk /f)
- Empty the temp directory,
- Go into the control panel and de-activate all disk caches (this was the origin of 90% of Windows 95 problems)
- Try to delete the swap file

Sorry...I used to know exactly, but I don't remember everything.

You can find a boot disk at:
http://www.bootdisk.org

Good luck
