These guys were real heroes. They traversed some of the most daunting terrain in this country and accomplished their mission with the loss of only one man to appendicitis. Pretty amazing.

I continue to be amazed at what they did.

Take the time to see Clark's grave in Bellefontaine Cemetary in St. Louis and Lewis' in Tennessee along the Natchez Trace.

We should spend more time learning about these two men than whether of not Britney Spears will have a girl or a boy.

They were the first 'odd couple'. One was gregarious and outgoing and the other felt he had to be solemn and self-effacing - putting aside his own pleasure. They did a great service by mapping and exploring, but many, many others did as much or more. I believe a lot of their acclaim comes from the meticulous diaries both men kept during their exploration.
