When the decree is finalized, technically. But there is more to it than that....

If there are kids involved, decency should indicate you wait at least 6 months...or more.

Once you're free to "date", the urgency to marry (unless there's a bun in the oven) seems silly. Don't be a serial bride/groom. There is some value to being "alone" even if you're with another person to understand you're making the RIGHT long term decision this time.

There is no penalty for waiting, but there is for hurrying - in terms of what others think (the ex spouses deserve decency in your behavior, as do parents and kids), and how you process the divorce.

Now, if three years after a divorce someone is dragging their feet...then they may not be interested in getting married....

As soon as you have the final divorce decree in your hand, signed by the judge, you can get married again. The ink doesn't even have to be dry on the document!

as soon as they stamp the divorce papers. the same day you go to court for your divorce. once the information is recorded in the system which they do right in front of you, you are a free woman.
