i come from derby in the east midlands, but not living there any longer, i'd like a few pictures to put around the house as i'm feeling a bit home sick

The library or a good local bookshop. Sometimes antiques shops also stock prints but may charge the earth. Search the internet for the work of local photographers. The tourist office may also be able to help.

it depends how old you want them.
i come from Leeds in Yorkshire, all the libraries have a huge archieve of photos which are all now linked on 1 website. you could try asking at a library in the area you want if they have something similar.
or go to BBC website, click on 'where i live' + it'll take you to news, media, info etc for that area.

I'd try to contact the city and see if they recommend any local artists. I know my city has a bunch of people who paint pictures or take photographs and they sell them at local cafes, etc.
