OKay my son will be 8 months on the 29th and he is trying to cut in a top tooth and that section of his gums has turned purple? The same spot turned purple a month ago so i took him to the Dr and she said she hadn't seen anything like that but he probably either bumped it or the tooth coming in caused a little bleeding not to worry about it just keep a eye on it. Well it cleared up but yesterday I noticed it was purple again.
Has anyone else experienced this with a baby before?

We use baby orajel and my son hates anything cold. I know it hurts him because well his tooth is trying to come in.
I'm concerned about his gums in that spot being purple.

If he has a tooth coming in on the bottom directly below it (or already has a tooth there), it could be simply him trying to ease the pain by biting down and causing a bruise himself. I seriously doubt anything is wrong, but I would keep an eye on it (maybe take pictures so you can see the change over time - you can also bring the pictures to the doctor if you decide he really needs help)
Also, you can try a trick my parents tried on me and my brother. Take a cold shot glass and press it against his gums gently where the tooth is coming through. Not only will this ease the pain and reduce any bruising or swelling, but it also will allow you to see the tooth (where the tooth is turns white against the glass through the gums) and see how it is progressing.

No, I have not experienced that...yet. My 11 month old just got 6 teeth in all at the same time. when he was crying for like 3 hours straight,I thought that I wouldn't be able to handel it...so I called my doctor and she said to try baby oragel, then a teething ring or a wet washcloth(throw it in the freezer for a half hour) and the other thing that she told me which I found ocward was to use children's liquid benadryl...rub a little on the gums and the most that would happen is thatthe baby would sleep(side affect). We were going to try it, but then my son stopped hurting the next day. Good luck, but I would do as the doctor said, keep and eye on it.

If it's purple, that sounds like blood or a bruise. My kids never had any problems like this, but I know when my uncle was teething (this was in the 50s, mind you) he had a problem with his gums growing back over his teeth that had partially come in. My grandmother had to take him to the pediatrician and they had to file the gums to break the skin and get his tooth through. I don't know if they do this anymore or not.
I wonder if maybe he bit down too hard on something and it caused a small bruise?

Never experienced that (and I've had 3 kids)
Sounds like the tooth is having a difficult time "breaking through"
I always gave my kids teething toys. I was told frozen things weren't good for delicate gums.
Baby Orajel also makes a cotton swab with the medication on it. Much easier to apply.

His gum could be alittle harder or tougher in that area if it was bruised before possibly making it harder for the tooth to come through. If he tolerates cold where it's trying to come in, my best teething remedy was a pacifier!! Make sure its a silicone nipple, run it under cold water and squeeze the nipple at the same time to fill it full of water. Throw it in the freezer until frozen and let him chew or "gum" it until it's melted. This will be messy when the water thaws, but it's just water! I kept several pacifiers in the freezer for backup. This saved my sanity with both my children!
If your baby dosent use a pacifier, try a very small bag of corn or peas. You will have to hold it though because their hand will get to cold. Best of wishes!!

My daughter has no teeth yet, but will occasionally have a bluish/purplish spot on her gums like there is a tooth coming through. It dissapears after a day or so then comes back a few days later. I have no clue what the deal is but your son is not alone.

I have never experienced this....but you might give him something to chew on to help the skin loosen up and the tooth break through. I gave my boys frozen pancakes, the mini aunt jemima ones, which helped relieve some of the pain and worked away at the gum too. Good luck! You know it is not fun for him!!

Haven't heard of that but is he acting like it's bothering him? Is he gnawing on a lot of stuff? If so give hima frozen waffle. Seriously, the cold soothes the pain medication free. If he seems unafected then I don't know.
