McLean and Henley come to mind, both were popular then. Don McLean did the American Pie song and Don Henley was the front man for The Eagles.

Could it be Don MCLean "Bye Bye Miss American Pie" ?
Don Henley of The Eagles? Lots of Dons it could be, but those are the 2 I think of.
