I have no idea,that's why i'm asking.

when it comes to ur deck, we use hurricane straps to tie the deck down to the foundation and/or to the pilings that support the deck.......

the straps r designed to control up lift from the winds......

Well my guess would be a real simple answer. It is a strap that connects the deck to the post footing(concrete) or to some other piece of material in the ground(4' or more) that would hold/ tie the deck to the ground so it doesn't blow around from high winds. Unfortunately we only have tornado's in Wisconsin.

Hurricane straps are, in this situatiuon, used to hold down the floor joists to the supporting beam. They will nail to the side of the joist and then to the top or side of the beam. Home Depot, Lowes or your local lumber yard will have these straps. Just go in and ask for "Simpson hurricane straps for floor joists".

A hurricane tie is a metal strap that connects a rafter or roof truss to the top plate of a frame wall, or to the sill plate of a CMU wall.

They go underneath the decking.

they're used at the intersection of 2 studs....either at decking/walls or walls/roof. i believe it's an "L" shaped bracket that you nail to the 2 adjoining pieces to give extra support.
