I found a lump in my breast now what?

I have a doctor appointment next week, I am 30 no family history of cancer, so I am keeping my fingers crossed that it is nothing. I heard the doctor will probably do a needle aspiration, is it painful? If it is benign do I still have to undergo a lumpectomy? Can it be done under local anesthesia? I am terrified of general anesthesia! Any helps appreciated, thanks!

I have had 2 lumps in my breast. They were not cancer, but they had to be removed. They were called fibroid tumors. The surgeon did a local anesthesia to remove it. If it is a cyst, they can do a needle aspiration. Cysts are usually not cancer.
I know how you are feeling right now because when it happened to me, I was very scared.

There are lots of reasons for a lump in the breast that have nothing to do with cancer. Be calm. Write down all your questions because when you go to the doctor there will be things you forget. Also, your doctor will probably send you for a mammogram and possibly a specialist before you get a definitive diagnosis. The needle biopsy can be a bit painful but not too bad. As for a lumpectomy, it depend on where it is, how big it is, etc and sometimes they just leave them where there are if it's benign. Don't panic! We all fear the worst and cancer is the worst thing we can think of. I know people who have died from breast cancer but I know more who have had benign cysts. Don't sweat it.

sometimes it's just a fatty deposit and with vitamin B 12 and B complex, it can take it away. It's probably benign, and they will give you a local anethetic for pain. Just make sure you have a good doctor and not some old fart saw bones with no bed side manners. No worries, honey. You'll be fine. Another thing that helps that i read is laughter. Go to a comedy club. Sounds silly, but it really helps. If you're afraid of needles ect... drink some chamomile tea, that should calm you... or if you need something else, a valium or vicodin should calm you enough. Be strong!

I have been getting breast lumps since I was 20 yrs old. I remember the fear I had with the first one. Unlike you, I do have a family history of breast cancer, aunt on my mother's side and grandmother on my father's side.

I get lumps all the time and I always get them checked out immediately and they are always benign. I have cystic fibroid breast disease but that's how my aunt started out.

I have had them aspirated and it doesn't hurt, it feels so much better when they remove the fluid so don't be afraid. Also take comfort in knowing that most of the time, they are nothing more than fluid filled cysts. Relax but be sure to follow up.

It could be just a cyst. No family history of cancer is a good sign too! My sister had a benign cyst removed and we have no history of cancer either. Needle aspiration may be a little uncomfortable, but you will be fine. You are stronger than you know! The mind loves to think for the worst, thank god you noticed a lump, you must take good care of yourself! Good LUCK!

I'll tell you this to make ya feel better. My grandma is head of the breast cancer wing at kiser fontana or riverside in california. She says
if they catch it early it can be treated. She also said the main reason why sometimes it get really bad is because they hold off on going to
see a doctor for money reasons, fear, ect. so its good you made an apt when u found the lump.

first they will do a mammogram, its mildly painful, but it will let them see what kind of tissue the lump is made of. If its suspicious, they will do a biopsy, usually with a needle. It hurts, but they will numb the area and probably give you pills for pain. A lumpectomy will be preformed if the biopsy comes back positive.

Don't worry too much right now. lots of things can cause lumps in breast tissue, hormone fluctuations, weight gain, pregnancy, etc.

You need to get to your doctor and have it checked out. It may not be cancer or it may be benign. The longer you wait the more serious it will be if it is malignant. The doctor should do a biopsy to get more information before doing anything else.

Do not panic! It may be nothing.
The FNA is not that bad, uncomfortable but no worse than a regular needle.
Wait for the results. They may be inconclusive, in which case the lump will have to be removed and more tests conducted.I am sure your doctor will explain what is and give you the best of advice. Well take it easy, let us know what happened. Good luck and hang in there.

Don't fret. The breast is naturally lumpy. I don't know if you routinely check yourself, but this may just be one of those natural lumps. Go to the doctor and get it checked out. The needle won't be comfortable, but it won't be terrible. Just relax, and accept things for what they are. It may be nothing, or it may be something. But if it is something and you caught it early, then you have the doctors to take care of you. good luck.
