My uncle and I went out to Indiana and we both split all of the costs. im 25 and he's about 45 years old. We stayed at my great aunt and uncle's home. The 1st night when we were out there he decided to borrow my car to go to a friends house. It was 8pm, and he said that he would be back in 2 hours or so. He did not come back until 1230am. During the time he was gone, my great aunt was setting up beds and one was a futon. She asked me if I was taller then my uncle and I was taller so she said to take the bed while uncle mike takes the futon. I asked her if she thought if my uncle was ok with it and she said that it would be fine. When he got home at 1230am, he was pissed. He said that I disrespected him by taking the good bed. Do you think I disrespected him by doing that, or do you think what I did was ok? I did not know what category to put this in, sorry.

No, not at all. first if all.. did he ask you to borrow your car? or just tell you he was going to?I think he was doing the disrespecting there. First come first serve; he was the one that took off, and you aunt set up the sleeping arrangements.. don't worry. you did nothing wrong.

By p'd do you mean drunk? Well... if he was drunk, so his mind may not have been fully "there". Even so, it is common tradition for the younger family member to take the "lower class" options to let the elders have the comfy things.
When I go to a familly gathering, I have to stand or sit on the floor while my elders get the comfortable chairs/sofas.
Did you tell him the question that your great aunt asked you?
If he wasn't drunk, he was just probably really tired and angry that you didnt still take the smaller bed. I don't think theres anything to do with disrespect at all- unless he means repsecting elders!

Personally,I don't think you did anything wrong,he just got pissed because you got the bed and he got the futon,he should of had his *** there if he was so damn concerned. Anyway,he disrespected you because he did not bring your car back at the time that he said he would.

I think your uncle overreacted. If he was pissed, he should have addressed his unhappiness with your aunt, who would have explained that she told you to take the bed. Maybe when he come home after being out for 4 hours, he was drunk? That might explain his poor attitude.

No you didnt disrespect him i would have done the same thing, i would have told him he disrespected you by keeping your car for an extra 2 hours. you were asked what you wanted and he was not there so he lucked out. I wouldnt worry about him. let him be pissed. he will get over it. just remind him he had your car out after midnight.

Always respect your elders, regardless of the circumstances.

You should have gave him the bed because it is respectful. But he shouldn't have got pissed as he did. I mean, its ok to be angry, but at least He should have been respectful as well.
