modern day rap is ****.

there is no other way to put it.

some underground rap is okay, but very few people, aside from those that are really into rap, ever get to hear it.

the stuff that they blast on the radios and on...hee hee...MTV is worthless. which is a real shame. Rap came about as a way for people to express themselves through unheard of rhyming and rhythmn with an empahsis on beats.

The whole thing was supposed to be a vehicle to express the issues that were facing the cities, the youth and the minorities.

the issues of degrading women and such only came about when rap went downhill.

If you want entertaining rap, look for the old stuff. that is where the ideas were at and the message was both born and died.

i used to love rap-
the days when it wasn't all about booties, tatas, vaginas and penises it gets real old real fast.

there are some rap songs i like that are recent, but they are far and in between.
and someone here mentioned that the reason why most of us may dislike rap is because they are either women or white, half of that is true, rap in general tends to treat the woman as a piece of meat, but i disagree with the white part. there are many people who are white who loved rap, that is not a very ligit reason to dislike rap unless they are racist.

as far as rap being over-rated..umm. yea i would think it might be.

what do u mean? How can you ask if an entire type of music is over rated that makes no since? Some people like it and some people love it and just because you dont dosen't make it over rated, but it dose make you a very judgmental and close minded person

Y'all just hating on rap. Just cuz you don't like rap don't mean that no one else ain't gon like it. All fingers ain't equal, okay? One man's burger is another man's ****. Okay? I also like rap and you don't there isn't a problem with that. Are you telling me that if you saw a really cute guy at a party, you wouldn't go out with him cuz he likes rap? Of course no. You would still go out with him so don't use music as a basis for judgement. Rap is good, rock is good, R&B is good, waltz is good, hip-hop is good etc. I'm not going to insult you like the other guys but let me state my fact. Most of the new rap songs coming out are not good but artists like T.I, Kanye West, Jay Z, Dem Franchise Boyz e.t.c are quite good. Most of the new rap songs are always about the drugs they take or the girls they accumulate like property and thier cars etc. That's not good in my opinion. I'm not going to take sides on this question or argument. In my choice, I like rap. I hope I have been able to convince you with my answer.

yeah, I second what "plasticrooster" said:

the rap on the charts nowadays is pretty sub par, and the music just ain't there.. excepting a few like the J-5 (who's latest is pretty mediocre), The Tribe, Kool Keith and Outkast - its all lame rap over whack beats.

I like the old skool..

I think Rap has been overrated since it hit the suburbs of white America. I think it was a beautiful artform and manner for African American's to express themselves in a thoughtful and creative manner when it first started, but now it has become about "coolness" and bling, and mysogyny.

Too bad.
