Good question.
First, in response to the other answers, the violation has to do with the time it takes me to deal with junk email. With normal post it's manageable - It's pretty quick to sort through a handful of mail. But with email, unless I take steps to filter the junk - and junk filters aren't perfect - the junk email far outstrips the important stuff - it's infringing on my right to MY time.
In direct answer to your question though, it's been held by the Supreme Court that the rights of people to deluge you with ads outweighs your right to your time and your privacy. Want it different? Elect people that will change it.

Who should decide what mail should be delivered to you? Do you want the government to regulate what other people can send to you? That would mean that the government would have to open every piece of mail and check to see if you receiving it is against the law. Where would your privacy be then? Besides, nowhere in the Constitution is there a "right to privacy".

What privacy right do you think is being violated? You can stop receiving junk mail by changing your address. Are you suggesting that somebody should suppress the mailers right to free speech?

You should contact your service provided and ask why you received a junk mail. If the reason is not acceptable, you can file a complaint with the concerned government office regulating them.

You have no right to privacy now according to USA Patriot Act
Phones are wiretapped, all informations are filtered by Echelon,
and soon, all that disagree with the administration in power, will be treated as terrorism.

we're all forced to get it. privacy only matters if you reply back to them and tell them to stop sending you emails. if they persist then your rights are violated. otherwise it's just a part of the internet business.

How are you 'forced'?
Did someone 'legally' register and bind you to an email address?
It's just like getting flyers in your real mailbox - there is no privacy violation, it's purely just placed there.
