In 2004 Meriam returned to Bahrain where she received a royal pardon and was forgiven by her family. However, she no longer maintains the title of Sheika. There has been little press surrounding the former princess after her return to her home country, but it is widely presumed that she is safe and faces no threat of harm or maltreatment
