Of course you can wear red at the funeral! It is very appropriate.
It is the tradition of my family to honor, mourn and celebrate the person at funerals.
We mourn our loss.
We celebrate the fact that they are going home to be with the Father--our ultimate hope.
We honor them by wearing their favorite colors. The flowers and limosine sometimes match as well--no kidding.
It is a beautiful sight to see everyone dressed so nicely and brightly in the favorite colors of the deceased. In my opinion it is more fitting. Wearing black at a funeral is depressing.
In other words--it is perfectly appropriate to wear red at a funeral--especially if it is the favorite color of the deceased.

I think some people see black as being the only acceptable color to wear at a funeral. It's a throw back to times when those in mourning were required to wear only black for a certain period of time after the death of a loved one. I'm a singer and I sing at a lot of funerals. These days, it's rare that I see too many people wearing black. In fact, the past few funerals that I've done, not even the widow has worn black. As we get away from funerals being simply sad events and making them more about celebrating the life of the deceased, people feel that it is now more acceptable to wear bright, colorful clothing to funerals.

Red is usually thought of as a "cheery" color, along with yellow, pink and most of the "warm" colors of the spectrum. When in a funeral, you're not precisely happy, specially if the person that died was someone you cared about and so wearing something bright and cheery doesn't "match" the mood of the occasion. Black (which is considered the absence of color) is usually chosen for these occasions because it is not considered "cheery" at all. Grey and white are also considered appropriate to wear at funerals. Grey is considered a "neutral" color, and white is usually associated with something "pure".

people see 'loud' symbols at important events, such as colors. u obviously know red means passion, and this is something some people do not want to be shown at a funeral for some reason. i would wear red socks or red shoes or something to keep it on the dl, but red in all honesty should be the color of choice for funerals, that way your respecting the deceased by showing them that you have a desire to go on happy for yourself, which is what they most likely would want to see. if you die, do you want everyone else to die? of course not, so wear red!!

Before my great grandmother died, she asked for people to wear bright colors to her funeral - to celebrate her life.
I think a lot of people get stuck in the "we must suffer" aspect of a friend or family member dying... and forget to remember to celebrate them.
Black always has been and probably always will be associated with depression, darkness, sadness and loneliness.
