I LIVE IN THE UNGODLY HOT DALLAS, TX. ITS OVER 100 DURING THE DAYS AND IN THE 90S ALL NIGHT. I DON'T HAVE CENTRAL AIR ONLY WINDOW UNITS. THE ELECTRIC BILL WAS $400 THIS MONTH. WILL THE ATTIC FAN HELP? When to run it and how long?

Yes an attic fan will help not only cool your home by removing the heat above the ceiling, but it will prolong the life of your roofing material from being cooked.

The fan should be installed with a thermostat that will turn it on at the desired temperature.

Since your area does not get below 90 at night I would set it for 90 - 95 to turn on. It wont help to run it for a temperature lower than what it will ever get outside the home.

This extra heat you are removing will help reduce the demand on your window units.

Let the Thermostat do its job on when it will turn on and enjoy the cooler rooms!

Attic fan is preventative. Best thing to get is a whole house fan, where you are pulling in external cool air through the house during the night, even at 90 degrees. Conditioning the air is very expensive, and hopefully we will allow ways that we have found to be efficient and cost effective hit the market.
Stay cool...
