Yes, that's perfectly normal. My period only showed up occasionally (two or three times a year) until after I had a baby at age 24. I was a size 0, 99 lbs. and 5'5" tall, and had only 3% body fat, so my period only came on once in a while naturally.
After the baby I was heavier, 120 lbs. or so, and my period came on every month after that. It still does.

Hmm... well... it does sound a little bit odd... It could just be your body getting used to having a period ... or somthing might be wrong... I would say if you feel comfortable ask your parents to take you to dr. or you can just call a hospital and speak with a nurse and they could tell you if somthing is wrong that way you dont have to go in unless you really want to or need to and last you can drive yourself to a free clinic and get checked out... hope i helped

Also remember that if you are too thin, that will cause your periods to stop. Your body will shut down menstruating if it thinks you're starving (very low body fat). That's an evolutionary adaption to prevent a baby from being born if the mother can't feed it.
Common problem with girls who are very athletic, don't have much body fat.

that is not normal to miss it for 5 months. It may be something like Polycystic Ovary Syndrome. You should see your docter because something could be seriously wrong.

well your periods are probbaly still irregular. i would go to the doctor and get put on birth control pills to make them regular and help with those painful cramps during the month if you get them. worked for me! i would go to the doctor though just to see whats up and not necessarily get on birth control, its your choice and your mom should be okay with it. good luck
