I agree with everyone else here- if you want to do it, do a course on hoof trimming, otherwise, leave it to the proffessionals.

Theres no point in saving $20, and losing a horse for a couple of weeks because of lameness. And anyway, the farrier doesn't trim the hooves for just the feet, but the whole horse- if the feet aren't laterally balanced, it puts unnecessary strain on the tendons and things, which affects your horses whole body.

i am not going to tell you to not trim your horses hooves, you have already gotten enough of that. plus i think that everyone is taking it out of context. as far as the length of the tow and the heel, it depends on what discipline(s) you do and what his confirmation is like as well as if he has any hoof problems and his age. As he gets older, it becomes more stressful to his legs to have a longer toe.I do not approve of trimming your horses hooves or shoeing without experience, but have a rasp and a file around for necessary occasions. You may have to pull a set of shoes sometime in the event that your farrier cant get there and it is threatening to the hoof. It can even be helpful if you know how to file the hoof a little bit if he should chip it. I learned to do these simple tasks on my own but I do not suggest that you attempt any thing else other than these without professional assitance or schooling in the subject.

Like Rocconisse stated, i'm relying on a stone bruise. She stated it so properly already, there is not a lot to operate. do not soak his ft even if it type of feels like a staggering element to do. His ft will improve, slowly yet fairly, you purely ought to provide him time. and that i might want to by no ability use that farrier back. for my area i might want to call for my funds back.... That stated - you acquire a horse whose hooves hadn't been trimmed for a 12 months?! it truly is a few extreme forget. the position did you locate this horse, and did you record the enterprise for abuse? in case you acquire it from a rescue, why hadn't they wiped clean the horse up earlier they bought it? A horse it truly is lengthy gone this lengthy without a farrier oftentimes needs corrective trimming and extreme care. seem into what farriers are on your section and verify if any of them have journey in corrective barefoot trimming. he's gonna want a large number of affection....

Get your farrier to do it you might accidently injure your horse. Its better to pay the money for a professional to do it then to wind up with a lame horse because of a mistake.

Stick with the professionals. They know best. Ask around for a reputable farrier. If you find a dodgy cheap one they can cause as much damage as you can.
