There is that bad neighbor who never speaks with anybody in the area, even if you say "HI" loudly and wave to him. Arrogance, but I guess he's a big reject.

Just ignore him?

You really can't call him a bad neighbor. Why would you ? Has he done something bad to you ? It could be that he has been hurt by some of the neighbors and just doesn't associate. It could be that he is deaf. It really isn't being bad, if he doesn't speak to the neighbors. Could be he does not care for You. If you have lived by him for a long time then you should know why, but if you are new to him, then probably he is bashful. Some people just don't want to associate with their neighbors. I have a young man, who used to speak with me and now he trys to dodge me. I don't think I have ever offended him. I hope not and I don't think so. It is like my Ma used to say: People are Funny !!! Not the kind to laugh about either. Keep trying to win him over. To be a good, kind neighbor is a good thing.

Oh my god that's not a bad neighbor. A bad neighbor runs 3 gas powered leaf blowers at 6am on a saturday. A bad neighbor lets his dog bite your kid. A bad neighbor parks his car on the lawn when you are trying to sell your house. A bad neighbor tells your kids that Jews and Blacks are ruining the neighborhood. A bad neighbor gets his trees TP'd and never cleans it up for the last three years! A bad neighbor has more Dandelions then blades of grass on his lawn. A bad neighbor has parties where the guests throw up on your car.

Didn't you see home alone? That old guy turned out to be really nice! Perspective, man! Yes, just ignore him!

Maybe he is frightened of you. Are you a lot younger than he is? Maybe he thinks you are the big reject. I mean no offense to you, but people are leery about talking to strangers these days, for fear they are some kind of serial killer, or that you want money or something from him. Or that you are trying to befriend him so he trusts you, and wham, you rob him. Maybe that has already happened to him, or someone he knows.
I went out in a public park yesterday, and sat down to relax. Immediately, a young woman came over to ask me for money and a cigarette.
Please continue to say Hi, and don't make fun of him. I
f he doesn't wish to speak, OK. Did you think maybe he can't speak? Or he is embarrassed by the appearance of his mouth/teeth? Or he is very depressed?
Lots of reasons why he might not. Be patient, be the nice guy.

This neighbor may indeed be hard of hearing or completely deaf.He may just have a lot on his mind. Continue being nice but not pushy. Even if he should get rude, ignore the behavior but not the man. Remember ,2 wrongs don't make 1 right. Continue being nice, you'll like yourself better.

You call that a bad neighbor? My brother's neighbors take the
cake especially compared to that guy. They've white trashed
their yard(they rent their home and the home and yard used to
look very nice before they moved in). The wife works close by
and she uses my brother's back yard as a short cut to where
she works(she walks to work). They even cut a hole in his fence
so she could do this. They've got angry territorial dogs which
they do not put on a leash. One dog bit my mom(not hard but it
still sucked). There is a pier which is to be shared by them and
my brother but they put their crappy boat right in the way instead
of putting it to the side so the pier can still be shared.

Perhaps he and the other neighbors are saying, "What is up with the guy that keeps screaming 'Hi' to us. It's like 5:00 in the morning and I try to ignore him. Then he writes smack about me on Yahoo!"

I would rather have a neighbor who minds is own business than one which is noisy, loud and having party's all the time, or a neighbor who is always sticking his nose in other peoples business. You can't force people to be friendly.

Maybe he likes being left alone.

Try leaving him a little gift anonymously.
Take him a gift for the holidays.
Invite him to a neighborhood cook out.

Make it a point to start up a conversation with him. If he turns and runs the other way, give it up. I'm sure he's got his reasons.

Well yes maybe he is a loner! Why would you want a relationship? Enjoy the fact he probably has some real issues and that you don't have to deal with them. Sometimes if it looks strange it really is.

Put a fire cracker in his mail box and light it.

Or just give him a big box of chocolates and have him tell you his life story so you can write a biography on him.
