Tough to say. It is similar in many ways, but it is still a much, much smaller Southern town. So the feel will not be the same as being in LA even if it does have similar features: both have shopping, museums, cultural activities. Atlanta has way fewer great restaurants, however.
It's similar in that both have grown incredibly large (by local standards) to the point of having sprawl problems. If you're in LA you know that (insert highway) can be busy on Sunday afternoon for no apparent reason. Likwise, the road from downtown Atlanta to the airport can be a parking lot at 10PM on a Tuesday(!).
In addition, like most sprawling cities, Atlanta grew up into various sub-regions with various types of people living in different areas. So the plus side is you can, like LA, find an area that is right for you.
But I think in terms of total land mass, Attanta is way smaller. I mention that because unlike LA you can get most places in Atlanta from most other places (as opposed to people in the Valley never seeing Pasadena because it is just too far). And that is good news because you can reach dowtown or other areas without driving for hours.
And there is mass transit if you live in the right spot (MARTA). And you will start to think in terms of going to other states more regularly since it is near the Carolinas, Florida, etc. So the idea of just being LA-centric won't happen.
So don't expect LA in many ways, but that doesn't mean you won't find what you like there.

Hell no. I am from long beach, ca and I miss it more than anything. Don't get me wrong, there are things I love about Atlanta but I have been out here for 3 years and I count the days til I move home. It is spread out like LA and there are a lot of clubs. But, people are very uptight, the decent beach is 4 hours away and it is the only big city within hundreds of miles. I would never make a comparison between the two.

The only similarity I see between Atlanta and LA is the traffic. Everything else is pretty different. The population in Atlanta, from what I could tell during my few days I visited, is not very diverse. There are black and white people, not much else. LA has everything. The weather is quite different as well. LA does not get hot and humid like Atlanta does in the summer.

Atlanta is not very similar to LA. I think if you want a city similar to Atlanta check out cities like, Chicago or Boston moreso than LA. But Atlanta is a great city, and has good warm weather.

Well, not really. Los Angles is way more spread out and crowded than Atlanta. plus Atlanta has southern food (that is worth moving here for)

The south sucks! No comparison at all. The people are inconsiderate, don't know how to drive, food is so so, muggy weather is awful, etc. Give me the west coast any day. You need to visit before making that move. Because once you leave CA you cannot afford to move back.

I don't think it is similar. The only thing the same could be the rush hour traffic which starts long before it and seems to go on longer that it should.
