"house of the rising sun" is a song who's origins are kind of lost in the mists of time...the earliest versions of the song have the "house" actually being a house of prostitution and was sung from a female's perspective...bob dylan's reading of the song on one of his earlier albums was done that way...when the animals reworked it, thay changed it to a man's point of view and it's now about a gambling joint...when the animals did their version...the songwriting credit was "traditional"...meaning it had been around a LONG time...but because the animals changed it up, a couple if them now have co-songwriting credits on it...

Actually there is an old blues recording that Bob Dylan got it from , but the Animals released thier version before Dylan. You probably are thinking of the Animals classic recording, though.

The Moody Blues
OOps, I was wrong, it's not the Moody Blues, and it's not the Animals: "The oldest known existing recording is by Clarence Ashley and Gwen Foster and was released in 1934."

I thought it was the Animals, too.
There is, a house in New Orleans...
Question right back at you, what is the lead singer's name? Eric what, Burton, Burdon?
