That is why so few people use WMP. Happened to me a year ago never could fix it.

Try rebooting the computer check for updates or finally do a reinstall of WMP.

All else fails then get VLC or something.

Error C00D11BB is "Unsupported protocol". I am guessing you are talking about playing streaming videos, as most of the time this comes from streaming a file over a protocol used by another program. (That is, they're not streaming it with Windows Media Player, but that's what you're trying to watch it on.) This means your WMP will likely work with other videos, just not this one in particular.

Try either:
1) Opening that particular video with another application
or
2) Try opening the file using a different trasport protocol. (i.e., 'http' or 'rtsp.'

Open WMP. Go to "Tools" > "File Types" > "Select All"... Should play just fine. You might have recently installed another media player and changed the file associations. Unfortunately, only one of the players will work since the file associations are not shared. If you prefer to use another player for audio, you will have to switch the file types each time you use it.

CODEC stands for compression/decompression. Instead of transfering electric data as a whole, there are methods of "squishing" it. And the method depends on the type of file. Windows Media Player sometimes requires certain codecs to open certain files. Just Google the file type and it'll show you what you need.

yea media player can suck but its so pretty. you need to go to download.com and download a ton of codec's or you can look for codec bundles. VLC is so much better though.
