A game is 2 teams picked out of the 8 to play each other.
There are 8!/6!2! ways to do that which gives you
28 pairings. Multiply this by the 4 games and you get 4 x 28 = 112

Well... this problem is a little difficult, if this written in the question is right...
So, in a basket ball tournament there are 8 teams... understanding at once.
Each team plays each (other) team 4 times, that means every team will play 4 games with every one of the 7 other teams.
The question is: how can I calculate this? The answer needs some knowledge about statistics. First, you want to see the value of the matches, if they played with each other team once, and then multiplying with the value of the games per combination of teams. Notice: Combination (Team 1, Team 2) is same with (Team 2, Team 1) e.t.c., because the opponents of the match would be the same.
So, the combination of the teams are equal with the collection of 2 teams by the collection of 8, without placing back, which is equal to 8!/(2!*(8-2)!) = 8!/(2!*6!) = (7*8)/2 = 28 combinations of teams. Each combination will do 4 matches, so the exact matches will be 28*4=112. You answered right... I hope that helps.

I think it's:
1 + 2 + 3 + 4 + 5 + 6 + 7 = 28 X 4 = 112

ok there are 8 teams
so lets name each team, a,b,c,d,e,f,g,h
so if each team plays each team 4 times lets apply the following..
lets assume they only play 1 time vs each team
so, let x be the amount of teams
for a....x - 1 = amount of games played...this is because a cant play against a, neither can b vs b, etc
so team a plays x-(1+n) times
team b plays x - (2)
team c plays x - 3
and so on
and you'll get to the amazing answer which is 7+6+5+4+3+2+1
which is 28 and since they play 4 times against each other, multiply by 4 and you'll have your answer which is 112

First you take the COMBINATION of 8 teams taken two at a time: 8C2 which is 28. This is done 4 times so it's 28X4 = 112 total games
