Monday morning on the way to work a skunk ran from the grass at the side of the road just as I was passing and committed vehicular suicide. Yesterday another one tried but came from the opposite side of the road and couldn't get under my truck in time, so I guess he had to wait for the next car to come by. This morning an opossum tried to stand still in the road in front of me but I was able to avoid him. I am just wondering why these animals are so determined to end their lives.

Any of your own stories about this topic are welcome.

This time of year is the beginning of mating season for these animals.

Remember Pepe Le Pew, It was really a black and white cat that you hit running away from him, not a skunk.

Actually they are the complete opposite. They try to survive, if this means risking their lives to find food by crossing road, then thats what they will do. They do not have the intelligence to conclude that care = danger, so they do this often. I have run over many possums.

Raccoons also have death wishes because they like 2 jump into our dumpster that has 6 foot high walls & if I didn't put a long board into it , they die, butt only if its almost empty.
