It may not be possible or even meaningful to describe colors to a blind person. However, even a person who has been blind since birth may be able to detect some degree of light - blindness is very much a matter or degree. You need to determine how much light the person can detect.

Consider thinking about what things are red, for example. People who are blind know "apples" and you could explain that some apples are red, ketchup is red, tomatoes are red, etc., and do the same with other colors. Some people have experimented a little with using taste to explain colors to blind people. Others have considered the relationship between music and color. In any case, you would have to use a sensation they know to relate to one they do not know.

How old is the person? It would seem he/she had been taught about living creatures by now. Someone must have described how colors work, surely. If they can understand total darkness, perhaps one could help in describing the opposite in color or light. Man, that is really a tough one. I tried to imagine myself never knowing what the color black or white is. How can one describe the color I see is black when I don't know what black is? Good luck there. I'm sure they can see black, white, red and blue, but how the heck can we show them which is which? Blue will go with black, and Red/white. That's all I can say.

If you were blind how would you feel about color? What makes color to you? Color has energy and emotion. Think about it and it will come, the right way to discribe to this person that is blind in sight but not imagination.

If it's possible to,which i'm not sure of, the only way i can think to would be to associate the colour with feeling whether it be actual feelings or the feeling u get when u touch something. For example, when u touch something hot u would think red, when u think of being sad u think blue or cold blue, feel sunshine on your face think yellow. I hope that this can work or even help a bit but i'm not sure if explaining something thats so totally visual is possible.

Have them feel a new pencil and describe it. Then rub it with some sandpaper. Have them describe it now.

Explain that color doesn't affect and object or its purpose, it just makes something a little bit different in how it looks to seeing people - just like he still knows its a pencil and it's still the same - it just feels a little bit different.
