You do get a lot of free stuff. You need toiletries for yourself, maybe a book. You need clothes for the babies to wear home and car seats. They pretty much give you everything, so pack light, and get your husband to bring you decent food.

I got a diaper bag filled with stuff and a gift basket. While you are in the hospital they will provide you with diapers and formula and when they discharge you, what ever you have left you can take home. Make sure you pack night clothes and slippers, toothpaste, tooth brush, hair brush, deodorant, an outfit to bring the baby home in, what ever else you need to make yourself comfortable. You can pack pads, but the hospital will also (or should, mine did) provide you some. My last day in the hospital, my boyfriend packed everything and took it to the car and then I had to go to the bathroom, so he went to get me another pad and asked me how many do you want and I said just ask for some pads (I wasn't quit released yet) and he brought back a whole pack. LOL. I hate pads, but the hospital pads were the best because they are bigger and don't bunch up real bad. ALSO when I went into labor with both my children, the first time I was with my mom and I about bit a huge chunk of her hand off, and with my youngest, I about bit my boyfriends finger off, so try to find something soft like that to bite. It helps!!!! Oh and by the way...CONGRATULATIONS on your new baby to be.

You should take things that will make you comfortable. Personal care items. You also should take an outfit for the babies to wear home. Something special that you want their pictures taken in before you go home. Most hospitals offer services of having the first photo taken. As for diapers and formula, you should check with the hospital where you plan to give birth. Many hospitals give gift packs after you have the baby. The items usually include diapers, formula, baby wipes, shampoo, a comb and it is usually packed in a little diaper bag. When you take the tour that is part of most Lamaze classes, you will have the chance to ask lots of questions. If you are not able to take a class, call the Labor and Delivery floor of the hospital and ask for a tour, or to just ask your questions. Congratulations!!!

I'd pack for you:
1. socks...Your feet WILL get cold
2. nightgown/or night shirt.. depending on whether you have a c-section or not...I did and I wore my husband's t-shirt that covered EVERYTHING!(If you are breast feeding...one that has the snaps or flaps..)
3. grannie panties!! (the brief kind!) You will have pads supplied by the hospital...and they give you these net type of throw away panties..YUCK!!!
4. Something to go home in..depending on the weather..
Baby:
1. a going home outfit
2. booties
3. baby nail clippers...TRUST ME...you don't want to forget them..cause the baby's nails WILL be long and sharp!!!
4. light hat
5. receiving blanket..
6. DIAPERS AND WIPES...IN CASE THE HOSPITAL DOESN"T GIVE THEM TO YOU!!!
Some hospitals will give you like 10 diapers...it all depends..I cleaned out the baby's cart when they brought him to me the day I left...took EVERYTHING...every wipe, diaper, rash meds...blankets...EVERYTHING.... SOme times they give you a few things of formula...all depends on the hospital...

Take a housecoat and slippers, pillows from home, a blanket too if you want. They do give formula--but I STRONGLY reccommend nursing, it's better for baby AND the budget. Also they will give you a carseat if you don't have one. They give diapers, and wipes, a baby bag, and alcohol pads for the cord. You should pack a cute outfit for the first picture they take at the hospital and a going home outfit with a hat for baby.

From personal experience, I would suggest bringing:
FOR YOURSELF:
A nightgown or pajamas
A book or boardgame (if u have anyone to play it with)
A phone card (ur not supposed to use a cell phone in hospitals)
Personal phone book
Toiletries
Breast Pads
FOR BABY:
Outfit for pictures
Carseat
Camera
Your own pacifier if you don't wanna use the one they give you
They SHOULD supply:
Diapers
Wipes
Ointments
Shirts
Blankets
Formula
Bottles
and everything else you should need
Good Luck with the new baby! I will be having one in 7 weeks by C-section!!
A little hint: When the nursery brings baby into your room in its little cart thingy, there will probably be diapers in the bottom. Take them out and keep them for yourself. THey will restock it! Heck..you pay for it anyways!!!!!

They do give you diapers, wipes, and formula. You should take those items if you wish to use your own, bring clothes for the baby and a blanket, for you , bring clothes for when you leave, slippers & comfortable PJ's, shampoo, soap, toothpaste/brush, lotion, pads. The hospital gives you everything you need if you don't bring anything, but when I gave birth I forgot to bring soap, and the one the hospital gave me irritated by skin really bad.

Pack your toiletries, a nursing bra(if you plan to breast feed), panties, and slippers. For the baby, he/she will only need an outfit to go home in. Yes they do give a lot of free things to the new mother and baby. It varies from hospital to hospital.
