One of the primary reasons a player might want to sign with another team is for a ring/title. He thinks that by moving to the New England Patriots who won three of the last five super bowls, he'll secure a ring before he retire (or in his words, "graduate").
Many other athletes moved to another team in search for a championship ring. In basketball Karl Malone moved from the Utah Jazz to the LA lakers hoping for a ring before he retire. But the Lakers ended up losing to the Pistons in the NBA finals. He didn't get his ring and the following year he retired emptied hand (or emptied fingered).
Junior Seau loves the game of football and he can't see himself retire. Just like Brett Favre he couldn't retire becuase he has a passion for the game.

Junior Seau was released from the Chargers...then picked up by the Dolphins, only to be released from them. He retired because he felt that there wasn't a team in the league that needed him, not because he felt that he couldn't play anymore. The Patriots came to him with a need and with the lack of healthy linebackers on the Patriots squad Seau would be a starter as long as he could maintain his health...
He still wants to play in the NFL. He's just looking for a team that wants him. The Patriots may just be that team.

Who knows, but I am so tired of players who do this. Why do they say they will retire and within a week go to a different team. The Charges games him a retirement party and I feel like it is an insult to Charges' fans. I remember (I think in the mid 90s) a former Eagle retired and the Eagles made a huge event of it. Then, he signed with the Redskins. What a joke.

I think it's because he has yet to get that SuperBowl ring. And maybe he feels that the best place to get that ring would be New England. I seriously doubt that they have a SuperBowl coming anytime soon in New England again though. Plus, he still has some umph left in him, as you can tell from that retirement speech he gave. And last and most important, MONEY TALKS.

although he did retire, it was because the dolphins cut him. if the dolphins did not cut him, he would've continued playing with them. since the patriots are low on linebackers b/c of free agency and injuries, they decided to go after junior seau.

He loves the game too much and he just can't walk away... we see it all the time... Brett Farve, Jerry Rice, Tim Brown, Emmitt Smith, Darrell Green, Ricky Prohel, Deion Sanders all had or are having a hard time leaving the game they love so much.
