Well I took English 101 at a Community College and it basically consisted of a refresher course of everything you learned in high school. All we did was write a couple short essays and read a couple narratives. Don't stress out about it.

There were so many differences between professors that I really can't say...
some make you write papers and others focus on reading and understanding what you read. Most will go over grammar though :-(

check with other students and find out what you can about the prof's reputation is all I can say.

A style manual (which will probably be on your book list) can be your best friend, both now and in the future. It's been 10 years since my last English class, and I'm still glad to have mine when I'm writing something important.

Keep up on the reading. Visit your professor and/or TA at office hours often, especially if you have papers to write. They're the ones grading you so get their feedback! Peer reviews are good, too. Try studying in groups. Don't procrastinate.
