Nothing but hunger, and it doesn't cure that for very long.

I always say a little research helps before answering a question, unless it is soley based on opinion. All of the naysayers are partially correct. Chicken Soup does not cure anything. Key word being "Cure". However it does help, it actually has qualities that do ease inflammation and slow the production of phlem. Dr. Stephen Rennard actually did a small study on this exact question which prompted more studies and they all agree on the results. Here are a few passages on Dr. Rennard from an article:
"Rennard tested his theory and added his wife's home made chicken soup to white blood cells, called neutrophils. To his surprise, the soup did slow the neutrophils. In fact, he claims that chemicals in the broth-based elixir clears a stuffy nose by inhibiting inflammation of the cells in the nasal passages"
"Since Dr. Rennard's findings in the early 1990's, several studies have since agreed with his results, and show chicken soup as a "relief" for the common cold, not a "cure." All research agrees that the soup helps break up congestion and eases the flow of nasal secretions. In addition, many say it also inhibits the white blood cells that trigger the inflammatory response (causing sore throats and the production of phlegm.)"

So there you have it.
Now this sick man with a sinus infection is going to go have a bowl of Chicken Soup with a Peanutbutter and Jelly Sandwich. Oh, a Grilled Cheese Sandwich never hurts either. Yuuuuuuumy!

Chicken soup doesn't CURE anything. the reason people suggest it for a cold, is because the steam is good for your stuffed-up sinuses and that looses mucus. You could get the same result from drinking a cup of steaming tap water.

I know for a fact that Chicken soup helps with a cold, something to do with the fat of the chicken.

No, but it makes you feel a lot better. And the steam from a hot bowl of soup may help open your nasal passages if you have a head cold. And if your Mom or your Grandma made the soup, it's full of love, which can't hurt.

chicken soup really cures a cold . Just the broth is good enough. it also opens up your nose (sinuses) and helps you to breathe easier.

My girlfriend is a nurse/pratitioner and she claims it doesn't help at all...not sure if I agree with her...it makes a person feel better if it's nice and good and hot so that's a plus!
