My son is turning one on Sept. 9 and we will be having a little family bbq to celebrate. My dad informed me that his SO's family will be flying in from the UK (no tickets have been purchased yet due to recent events) on the 8th and they are going out of state until the following weekend. Do I have the bbq anyway, since his actual birthday is on a Saturday, or do I push it back/move it forward one weekend? They've known for a while we were doing a celebration ON his birthday.

I should also add that my dad is the type to stay for an hour, have a beer, and 'take off' as he puts it...though he will be holding the video cam...

Don't rearrange YOUR plans for your dad. Your son is the most important person in your life (I hope) and he needs to feel special on his special day. Explain to your dad that while you love him dearly that your son deserves to be special on his special day. You're going to have alot longer than 18 years with him so don't get it off to a rocky start.Ask someone else to hold the camcorder but don't do it so that it offends dad, if it does than you should be offended that he isn't going to be around for baby's !st party.
