Why does male supervisor hate our best employee?

Our male supervisor hates our best employee and she is female and 35 years younger than him. He hates our beloved male employee. He yells and screams at people who like the good employees. Why?

Fear. He's probably aging and afraid of getting the axe in favor of a younger, faster, cheaper, better employee; so he lashes out at his perceived competition. Beyond that, he may be exhibiting some signs of psychosis, perhaps bipolar personality disorder.
Bipolar men and women can go far in the workplace, using the manic phase of their disorder for monumental achievement.

Be careful. This sounds like more than a grouchy boss.

Well, one possible answer would be this supervisor is an a@@hole! But you can also think him as an old person who wants to maintain his existing social status (or workplace status). If he is a traditional man, then he probably don't think younger workers should be rewarded too much, especially this worker is a female (lets say your supervisor is gender biased). Yong & hard working employees somehow threaten his current position and office status. So while he is under lots of stress, he would most likely to express his frustration toward those good employees because he does not think they deserve such title.
