Depends on how you hurt it. If it's sprained:
1. Get off it.
2. Wrap it
3. Ice It

It depends upon how badly you hurt it. Can you walk on it normally? Is it swollen? Is it in the front or the back of the ankle? All the people who said you should ice it, are correct, so start with that. Try to stay off of it as much as possible. If it is swollen, take ibuprofen to reduce the inflammation. When you have to be on your feet, bandage your ankle or use a flexible (non-rigid) ankle brace. Don't wear heels - my best friend had a bad ankle sprain but kept wearing high heels and after 2 months, her ankle still swells. When you start to heel, you will need to do strengthening exercises.
If you have a really bad ankle injury, you need to go to the doctor as you may need to get some physical therapy.

Ice it for 20 minutes at a time, keep it elevated and try and stay off of it. When you do have to be on it, use an Ace bandage. Take an advil or alieve for pain.
If it continues to hurt bad for more than a few days, see a Dr.
