Trinessa could be a generic brand of orthortricyclen. The pharmacy probably does not have Ortho or your insurance is trying to pay for the cheapest birth control pill. It is a shame that the Pharmacists don't tell you. But I guess they don't tell because they want your money. Go back and tell them that Orthotricyclen is what you want. Or ask them does Trinessa provide the same benefits as Orthotricyclen.

Don't worry, OrthoTriCyclen and TriNessa are bio-equivalent medications. This means that they have the same, exact active ingredients in identical doses and proportions, and that they are therapeutically equivalent to each other. They will have the same effect on your body, including the skin-clearing and contraceptive properties. They differ only in price (TriNessa has a lower retail price), and are manufactured by different pharmaceutical companies (Trinessa is manufactured by Watson Pharma; OrthoTriCyclen by Ortho-McNeill). Depending on what state you live in, it's mandatory to dispense generic medications unless your doctor handwrites "No substitutions" on the prescription. Some states let you choose, but in Mass if the doctor just wrote Orthotricyclen, you'd get Tri-sprintec(at least you would in my pharmacy).
Generics have the same active ingrediants as the brand medication but at a cheaper price through your insurance. The pharmacy has no obligation to tell you that you're getting a generic prescription if you live in a state where generics are mandatory without the "No sub" notice.
The effects should be the same regarding clearing up your skin.

Trinessa is the generic of Orthotricyclen. Same drug, less expensive. Call your pharmacist and ask them.

I am on Trinessa..had the same concerns. At first there was breakthrough bleeding but after a couple of months I was back to normal. IT helps my skin as well as Orho.
