Why are RED-NECKS anti-intellectual?

I hear red-necks all the time talking about how they hate college professors, scientists, doctors, writers; - basically anyone who holds a degree from a respectable Northern University/College. And these same people are coincidently Jesus Bible thumpin' freaks. Why is this so? Why do they think that its good to be stupid?

Why are all respectable universities in the north? I go to a top 25 business school in the south but could've gone to several different northern schools. I guess that makes me an uneducated Bible thumpin' freak, however. I guess that whole deal with me getting a National Merit Finalist scholarship, university honors, and a masters as well as 2 bachelor's within 4 years makes me a red-neck. D*mn, it sucks to be me.

Well to be so stereotypical is wrong of you...and because they are really into the Bible doesn't make them a freak...but the problem is they have been taught that anyone that disputes their beliefs are book smart but not Jesus smart...or they don't understand the conversations being held...ignorance is bliss remember...My mom is from the south and we can't talk about anything...she is what you described...but I just don't hold conversations with her...It doesn't bother me that bad to resort to name calling...why does it bother you so much...are you trying to prove how intelligent you are to someone who just don't care?

Only a few are like this (I was born and raised in the South). I think the ones that are like this is because their world consists of the little town they were born and raised in. They never took the chance to get out therefore they are ignorant of the world around them. Please don't judge us all based on those few. I now have a MBA and work in DC.

I don't understand something here... you say you hear rednecks talking about this stuff all the time? If you don't hang around rednecks how do you know what they are talking about? And I want to get something straight with you I AM A REDNECK AND I'M NOT STUPID!!!!!! It sounds to me you are putting yourself above country folks, sounds like you have a few problems of your own!

Sometimes - people talk bad about other people to make themselves feel better. I don't know why this is, but it happens. You have to have a variety of people in all sorts and kinds of professions - so that everybody is happy. If we were all Doctors, we could just cure ourselves and we wouldn't need anybody to be doctors...just let them think and do their thing...someday, you will need them and they will need you.

They're ignorant because they're sheltered and not exposed to many outside thoughts and practices. Any strange idea is feared because it forces them to re-evaluate what they consider right, and this kind of introspection is very difficult on these kinds of people.

It was how they were raised. They also don't have the greatest education. They probably had a hard time in school and dislike anyone smarter than them.
