I'd tell him that I think he's been doing the best job he can given the circumstances and don't take all the criticism personal. Most people are more upset about $3/gallon of gas than the war (ofcourse the same people pay $10/gallon for coffee). Clinton's administration was a fiasco and because the economy was good (thanks Reaganomics) everyone looked the other way. I'd tell him to look forward to retirement and know that few (if any) could have done the very difficult tasks he was charged with any better.
