If you are asking about an OTC (over-the-counter) urine pregnancy test most likely they will not work correctly and accurately until the first day of your first missed period. There are many different kinds of OTC pregnancy tests, you will have to read the instructions and fine print on the one you plan to use to find out for sure.
Urine pregnancy test dectect the level of hCG (human chorionic gonadotropin) in your urine to determine whether you are pregnant or not. The production of hCG can be detected in urine about 26 days after conception, but like I said before, all of the OTC test are made differently so it depends on which test you have.
If you believe you might be pregnant you can always make a doctors appointment to have the blood work done and be able to find out sooner than waiting until your first missed period. The production of hCG in the blood can be detected as early as 6 days after conception or about 20 days since your last period.
Finding out as soon as possible is key in caring for yourself and your baby.
