Sometimes they just want to advertise their school. However it wouldn't be so bad if you consider attending there. They might not 100% guarentee that they accept you. They still have to look at your grades, performance, etc. Remember, Cornell is an Ivy Leagus school with high standards. Check out http://www.cornell.edu/ for more info.

If not a cry for affirmative action, it is at the very least a cry for your money. Remember, colleges, and universities are in business to make money, ie tuition, fees, etc...
By the end of your Sr. year in high school, you will probably have received brochures from 50 different schools.
Good luck, and watch out for Student Loans.

Oh course they want you to attend. College is a business. You must always remember that. Its kinda like getting an add for a sale at Target. They are just letting you know they are there and if you wanna come in, then good for you. You are paying for a product (your education) and if they dont deliver you must fight for it. So yes they want you to attend but if it isnt you it will be someone else. So as far as affirmative action goes I doubt it.

If you took the psats or the sats your name and information(name, address, ect.) is available to colleges, i got tons of letters from colleges ive never even heard of or requested information for and when i asked my guidence counselor about she told me it was because of the psats/sats. The college just probably sends letters out so people will consider going there.

Schools send information all the time to interested persons to get you to apply not necessarily that it will gain you access to their institution after you apply. You'll know for sure when you get a letter that starts with Congradulations!

Depends, I too received lots of literature from different schools. Bottom line, they all want your money. Just read them all and decide what you want to do. Try to pick the best 3 and go for those.

Sometimes colleges send out information just to get the word out. They could have gotten your information from many places, such as school, scholarship sites, etc.
If they were trying to recruit you, it would be more personal.

They are just advertising. They usually get your information from your high school or collage. You still have to apply and go through the selection process if you want to get in.

They are probably sending it to students to let you know about their school. Doesn't necessarily mean that you would be able to get into the school. Need the grades to be able to attend.
