Now my husband never does that for me, and that's okay because I know some guys are like that. My question is, is it okay for me to ask him to bring home a surprise for me every now and then?

I DON'T GIVE IN HOPES TO GET SOMETHING IN RETURN. I DO IT BECAUSE I WANT TO!
Don't some people know how to read? If you can't understand the question, don't answer it.

i don't think there's anything wrong with expecting a little or asking for a little, as long as you don't demand for it.

drop some hints, like telling him that one of your friends' husband surprised his wife with a home-cooked dinner, or just some cheap flowers (don't go overboard expecting jewelry or something from him) and express how sweet it was to receive something from your own husband, and ask him if he'd do the same once in a while. tell him you're very sentimental and that you just want to know that you are in his thoughts while thinking of what to buy you. i think that's what you are looking for -- you want an assurance that he thinks about you, just like how you think about him when out shopping, which is not bad at all. it proves that there is a strong intimacy involved that you want something that will remind you of your husband, and it wouldn't hurt if he could just prove that you are in his thoughts also.

You wont come on too strong he is your husband and you guys should be close enough to talk about things like that. You can hint about it in a flirty teasing kind of way and hope he gets the picture.

I don't know if you should really ask him to do it, but maybe drop hints like 'I really like it when you bring home surprises from your trips' or 'I really enjoyed when you gave me that _______ that you found on when you went out' 'I found the coolest _________ when I was out the other day. I really wish I had picked it up' Dropping hints like usually helps with my hubby and kind of makes him feel like he's doing it because he enjoys it, not because he has to. You'll probably end up getting better stuff that way too!

If you ask him it's not a surprise. You should not be giving with the hopes of getting something in return.

I do stuff like that for my boyfriend, little stuff like if I see a candybar he likes or a shirt or something like that. And no I don't see anything wrong with asking for something every now and then. but don't be to hurt when he still doesn't do it. Some men can be sweet and thoughtful but lets face it most of them aren't. Their brains just don't function that way.

sure. If you dont ask, you dont get.
Guys don't like the phrase "surprise me" much. It used to send my B/F into panic attacks..he said whatever he picked always seemed wrong.
So when you ask..be semi-specific:
Say stuff like "Aww I wish you'd bring me flowers sometime, Or chocolate sometime, or ___________sometime...I love to be surprised like that."

give him hints, you'll get better results..

as you may know, some men are pretty clueless when it comes to women and their needs..

best thing is to drop him hints..don't ask him flat out
