When I was little, my mom didn't take me to the movies. I had to wait until I was old enough to appreciate them. Today, things are much, much different. We're such a Me society nowadays, our children idolize rude, self-indulgent and spoiled celebrities named Hillary, Paris, Nicole and Lindsey; worse, they actually emulate their behavior. Is it any wonder?

Movie theaters across the country have attempted to address the problem of parents bringing babies into theaters. Loews has a "Reel Moms" day every week; mothers and babies are welcome, the lights are not so dim, changing tables are in the back and volume isn't so loud. It's a perfect solution, but sadly, there are still some who insist upon bringing their child to movies that are for the 17 and older crowd.

To the person above who advised that if people don't like the noise stay home and watch the DVD, I think you have it backwards. There's an unpsoken rule that we as civilized people are aware of. The rule is, NO TALKING DURING THE MOVIE. If YOU can't keep quiet, YOU wait for the DVD and talk all you want in the privacy of your own home.

I have yet to take my child to the movies... even to a child's film. I don't think she'd have the attention span, then I'd have to get up during the film, take her to the lobby thus distracting my fellow movie goers. It just rude! When I saw Starwars last year I had to a family in front of us had a toddler & a baby with them, the mother must have gotten up 3 times to walk the baby down the isle and take them both to the lobby, not to mention they were talking insesently through the film! who takes children to a 2 hour movie??? sorry if Im getting carried away but it bugs me too!
In my town they have 'Mommy Movie Mondays' at a particular theater- great idea, the whole showing just for parents with small kids!

Because they are inconsiderate. There are special nights after all for those with babies. I am a mother of two and never brought my kids to the theatre when they were babies and I only bring them now to movies that are aimed at their age group. Believe me. It was tempting to bring my kids when they were younger but it is a fact babies cry. Babies cry when they want to , for how long they want to, and how loud they want to. And when that happens no one will enjoy the movie including me.

What TexChrist said...we live in an ENTITLED culture. It boggles my mind that not only are these idiots selfish and rude, but they think that they are ENTITLED to have spawn, even though good judgment would dictate that they are obviously too poor to do so. Why do poor people have kids? Kids are EXPENSIVE. Put your funds toward furthering your education, get a good job and make something of yourself, and THEN have kids.

parents who bring babies to any movie theatre are rude and inconsiderate... parents who bring small children to any movie theatre other than ones showing movies especially for small children are rude and inconsiderate.

when i went to see the first Lord of the Rings... there was a 3 yr old girl in the theatre that was terrified of the movie and her parents completely ignored her.

i have seen parents bring small children to horror movies several times.... what 5 yr old needs to see Silent Hill????

In our Entitled culture, people think that their right to go out and see a movie trumps other people's rights to actually be able to hear the movie they also went out to see.

Perhaps these people need to take some etiquette lessons.
