I have a gateway computer....celeron processor, windows xp home service pack 2 (I know, I know.....it really sucks...) But it works, or at least it did until I got DSL. It worked for months, but then last week the internet stopped running properly. I open up IE which is what I've been using, and it says "Cannot find server"....So I go to Tools > Internet Options > Connections...and my connection isn't listed, it seems as though it isn't even registering. Tech Support says it's a problem with the amount of memory I have, but then why did it work for so long and then just stop?

Any suggestions on what to do? I'm thinking I have to just restore my system defaults and start over, anyone have any other ideas?

Hmm.. that's an odd thing to happen, but, here's a suggestion, when you go in and place your connection back in there for the dsl, after you're done, come out of all of it by clicking Apply and then Okay till you're all the way out to your desktop. Then, do a shutdown. Click on Start, click on Turn Off Computer, when the next window pops up, click on Shut Down and let the system wind down.
Now, when that's all done, restart your computer, and, quite likely, it will be there and stay there..
Also, make sure you've cleaned up the drive, ie, gone to Internet Explorer, gone to Tools, Internet Options, Delete Cookies, Delete Files, Delete Offline Content.
Once you've done that, run Scandisk and then Defrag your hard drive. Then, reboot again!
This should help a little on speed, and connections.

check if your network driver is still there. If it is then check out your configuration.
I don't think you should have any problem.
Check for virus also(Should not the reason but check it.)
I hope your cable are working properly.
Even though if it does not work.
Reinstall you o/s,and set everything again.
May be you changed something in setting and guessing is not possible without checking your system. So reinstalling is good option.
However it does not suck at all.

Restart your DSL modem and/or router. Also try restoring your connection configuration.

it is not your computer it sounds like the modem and the connection. It could be the connection settings.
