Alright, here's what I think. It really isn't good to look like you're trying too hard the first day. So I say wear a cute fitting t-shirt and jeans with few accessories the first day. Then save the outfit you have planned out for Friday. Or just a couple of days after that. You don't want to make it obvious that you're a freshman, so please don't try too hard.

Leggings are really hot right now the idea you had was great but I would add a headscraf with that and some ballerina shoes or some open toe pumps or heels. But leggings are so popular half the school will be wearing them, so you might want t o find your own style, How about a sleeve less blazer jacket form fitting those are popular right know, but not every girl can wear it and actually look right you have a very small frame and you have bangs so I'tll look awesome, try that with the a nice jean capri with some black pumps to even out your legs and make you look taller, if your not into heels rock some flats like ballerina shoes some nice braclets and , maybe some hoop earings. jeans are almost always a good choice - double check with some of your friends if you are really worried. the pearl earrings maybe sound a bit too much for highschool. if you wanna know what is in right now watch MTV or VH1 and read mags like Lucky, InStyle, or teen people. also go to a mall and check out stores like american Eagle, gap, etc. remember that looks are not everything and just be yourself.

Do not look like you tried at all....I'd just wear jeans and a t-shirt. Also, make sure it's nothing TOO trendy.. don't want to look back and think "EIGH! I wore that on the first day of school??!!" Trust me, I went to high school in the 90's, I can remember the hideous clothes we thought were cool then.

A nice lime green turtleneck sweater, acid-wash jeans with three stars on the pocket and yellow gum boots. All available at Walmart.

Yeah I agree with Rubiglo....and you know what? no one will even remember what you wore on your first day! So Just look nice, but don't draw attention to yourself as trying to fit in. I'm sure you'll look good in whatever you wear. If people don't like you because of what you wear, their loss, find cooler friends.

i think you should wear what YOU like. whenever i like something i wear it. i don't care about what's "in" and what's "out." i still try to look good, but i don't see the point in wearing the same thing as everyone else
like for 2 months EVERYONE had, or wanted, a northface. my friend asked if i wanted one and i said no. and she called me crazy
then the next big thing was uggs. i hate when people judge you by what you wear but i don't care what they say.
to get to the point, wear what YOU want, don't worry about the other people

If it were me, I'd wear something comfortable like jeans (nice ones though).
If you want to know what's in right now, here's a good site to check out:

wear something u'll be comfortable in, not something TOO wild or TOO "in", just something natural and comfy, it's only the first day
wha'ts in this fall:
skinnies
leggings
flats
cardigans
and other stuff >> make sure the stuff u wear is flattering on you...just because it's 'in' doesnt mean it'll look good
