Other than the fact that you really know nothing about this person I would say it's a great idea to start a band. You are getting together for a common interest and you should have plenty to talk about on the subject. I have been a musician for 35 years and often get together with other musicians that I never met and we have a great time playing and telling each other of our experiences in the music biz. Nothing will progress your playing ability faster than being in a band and you'll get to hear and see how others play their instrument and be able to borrow from their experience. I would meet this other musician at a public place and bring a friend along until you figure out if He's cool or not. Have Fun!!

First, you should agree on what kind of music you will play;
second, find out if you are OK with one-another - to be in a band with someone, you have to put up with him as a person;
third, see if all of you are ABLE to play the music you want to, because if it turns up someone can't do it properly, it will be very unpleasant later.
OK, now you've got a band! Immediately create some repertoire and start rehearsing. On those rehearsals work as much possible - those events are neither the place not the time for socialization. This rehearsal stadium should last from 2 to 4 weeks - as soon as you have 30-50 songs you can play good, find a gig to show the people what you can! If you're only rehearsing for more than a month, everybody will get bored!!!
From my experience, that is what you need for successful co-operation in a band! Good luck...
P.S. - in a band, someone must take charge and be a leader of it. If it turns up to be you, be prepared for a responsibility; if not, go along with it!

Well I think you should just try to talk to him and just act like you would as if he wasn't there like you were talking to him on Myspace............at first it is always going to be awkward but be careful with those sittuations from Myspace..........Just talk to him like he was a new kid in class and you are trying to make him comfortable in being there................Good Luck with your Band!!!!!
