my dad owns his own business and i work for him over the summer when i come back from school. he always says he would rather work for himself than for anyone else and he enjoys being the one in charge and being able to choose his own hours. he had the business passed down to him from his father (its an auto-body repair service shop) so it was an easy transition because he worked for him and knew the workings. he said he would never apply anywhere for a job where he has to make himself look better than he really is. it's pretty nice.

you need to go with your instincts and just do it. that's the risk you take when opening your own business. it's not easy. you have to always be self motivated and always willing to try new things. I graduated with a BS but didn't have a job for 5 months or so. just finally got tired of waiting around so i took a risk. so far it's paying off.
I own a tax and bookkeeping office. I like what i do, i like talking to clients about their business and i like helping them save money in taxes.
you're might need some start up capital (ask someone to invest) to help you market your graphic art business. It's a competitive business, you must be willing to change and adapt at a fast pace.

Yes and Yes. Although it's not right for everyone.
If you enjoy going to a work place where your priorities are set for you, where you can rely on others to make things happen, where you leave at night and forget about whether or not the client is happy with your designs -- then it's probably not right for you.
You need to enjoy finding opportunities and setting your own priorities. It sounds like a dream for everyone, but when you and your family's dinner depends on your decisions, it's a nightmare for some.
You need to enjoy doing most anything. Accounts payable and other administration sucks. In the beginning you need to willing to do it. Worst of all, you need to be willing to do it at 10pm after you've finished the production work for which clients pay.
You need to enjoy the work you do and the industry within which you work enough that you are willing to think about it ALL the time. You will think about it at night which will keep you from sleeping. You will think about it while on "vacation" which will keep you on the cell phone. You will think about it while watching your child's school play. You need to enjoy that level of involvement.
For me, it was the right time when I could transition financially. I knew I wanted to do it, but also had to meet personal financial objectives. For you, that probably means that you have one or two clients ready to buy services from your new company.

I own my own business, and I am looking to get another one started. I made up my mind that I didn't want to work for others, I wanted to be my own boss. I've been doing this for 5 years. I love the freedom it gives. It's worth it, if you are willing to put the hours in, and stay dedicated.

Yes, I own my own biz. Ummm, I think for me, the reason for being self-employed is I don't follow direction very well. ?? lol. Sad but true. But, I am very good at focusing on a multitude of things. It's hard even gut wrenching at times owning your own company. But, can be very rewarding. I am a small biz and start up consultant. Let me know if you'd like to work together on your start up.

I own several businesses. It is what God created me to do. Owning your own business is the best thing to do because you treat your boss well even when he/she doesn't deserve it.
