Open immigration, and just concentrate on security at the border?

Free movement of people, goods, and ideas I think is a good thing.

We put up a wall around us and we'll soon be getting bombs and rockets hurled over that wall. A revolution is already started in the Latin American countires.

you all seemed concerned about protecting America. What is there to protect? What makes America work is free and open trade of ideas amongst diverse thinkers. If we open up to Mexico they will become part of us, we'll all be better for it.

If we did that we would have a billion people here in about a week.
You might be able to do that if all countries were essentially equal,
such as in economy, politically, socially, etc. but in the current climate
I can't think of a more insane thing for us to do. What sort of revolution is going on on Latin America?, the one where they realize
that all they have to do is point all the people they can't manage to provide for at the US and everything is hunky dorry? or the one like in Venezuela and Bolivia?

Who cares about Mexico? I live in a border city with Mexico and I don't care about it! I believe we have a lot of Mexicans in our country already and we don't need more! Imagine if the government does that, don't you think USA would be overcrowded? LOL Mexico would no longer exist because it would be empty with all its people here! We have enough with illegal immigrants already! Enough is enough! If Mexicans want to come over here why not do things the right way? Here they come all illegal and still want benefits? Its soooo not fair for people that have done things the right way!

exactally, who wants the weapons and drugs illegally here. We would have to search every single vehicle and person and still wouldn't be doing it well enough. You thought the wait at the border was bad now? It just wouldn't work. Look at the coutries that have tighter immigration laws than us they are safer to live in and more comfortable. ie. austrailia the average waiting list is live 5 years or more

Probably one of the reasons why that hasn't happened is that the cultures and religions are too different for us to just all open up. There would be destruction because of the different beliefs and customs. Although that is a good idea, I think that the different countries need to learn to compromise on that kind of stuff before they can totally open up.

The borders are already open to anyone, it's their 'right' to be here, apparently.
Soon, the Billion plus chinese will figure out its their 'right' to be here too, talk about traffic jams.

The same reason that you don't just let anyone come in and sleep on your couch and eat your food.

Or maybe you do and your house is full of freeloafers (no, that's not a typo).
