Just like any other genre, it has its notable bands and its really crappy bands. Personally, I really enjoy such metal bands as Black Sabbath, Rammstein, Dimmu Borgir, Tool, System of a Down, Korn, Static X, etc. The only negative thing I can say about metal is that it really is an aquired taste and I don't like how it's been broken up into sub-genre upon sub-genre, what with nu-metal, industrial, hardcore, sludge metal, etc.

I'm a big metal fan, and I think that the genre, for the most part, doesn't get the proper respect for the musicianship, talent, and ability that a lot of the bands deserve. Having said that, I think that metal is no different than other genre of music, in that a lot of (most) bands tend to fall into predetermined formulas, lack originality, have fleeting success, and then wonder why they never got respect.

Is there any other kind of music? Just kidding...but it is definitely my favorite. I prefer old school metal like IRON MAIDEN (up the irons), Judas Priest, Queensryche, Slayer, Black Sabbath, old Metallica, Megadeath, Pantera, Corrosion of Conformity, Exodus, Testament and Motorhead.
Some new metal that is good is Opeth, Nevermore, Lamb of God, DevilDriver...

Most of the music I buy comes on small plastic discs. I've never seen metal ones.

It's getting to the point where people have cliché music and just scream and copy each other. It was original at first (to me) but now it's just really annoying. I prefer just Rock music to be honest

the msicians in metal bands are usually very talented.... its a pretty good genre...some of its too hardcore for me tho...i used ot like that hardcore stuff but now i dont so much....but i stil will give them credit on their ability to play the guitar and drums and evrything

i hate it it because there is nothing there behind the distortion its all sounds relatively the same with nothing new being added and when the best singer in a genre ive heard is a dog its pretty sad
