Is it exhibited by species besides humans, particularly as they get closer to humans in the evolutionary spectrum? Why are there different chemical/hormonal balances in gay men than straight men? Why would anyone choose to go through the social hardships of being gay?
Ignoring the mandate of God (for Christians), as we should not impose our religion on others, what valid argument can there against homosexuality? The sanctity of marriage argument is illogical (divorce) and the reproduction argument is also incorrect (sterile couples).

I submit to you that all homosexual couples are sterile. Hence, incapable of reproduction. That, through the natural selection of nature, would spell the end of any species. That means homosexuality is an anomaly. And as such can not be included in the definition of procreation and therefore not natural.
BTW, having children is not the real secret to continuing the race, having fertile children is that secret.
As far as I am concerned the jury is still out on the question of "nature or nurture". I know (personally) two families, one with 2 children and one with 3 children, all 5 children have openly declared their homosexuality, and that can easily be balanced with one homosexual coming from a multchild family. Then I see studies that indicate a hormonal balance is the cause, while yet others indicate that the brain is physically different. So who can one believe?
Personally, I think I am going to give the jury some more time to come up with a verdict.
Incidentally, I am an Atheist, and an engineer (non-degreed). I could care less (but I would have to try hard) about what a work of fiction has to say about gays. In fact I have no problem with some sort of civil ceremony/contract that would bind them into a single unit under the law. My problem is semantics. The word marriage seems to have a very special meaning, and it has had that meaning for thousands of years. I don't think it is necessary to dilute the meaning of the word for no other reason than political correctness. Especially in a country known for creating new words through invention and discovery. A civil contract is all that is needed. In a prelaw class, I attended out of curiosity, I learned that nearly everything legal can and has been set as a condition to a contract. Why not spell it out and have that contract bind the homosexual couple.

As a member of the heterosexual community I am and probably always will be ignorant of the trials and tribulations of social stress imposed on the homosexual community.

In response to your question regarding "exhibited by species other than humans", where has this been shown? Have, for example, two males or two females in the animal kingdom ever really been observed to attempt reproduction of their species?

Just because someone discovered a couple of gay dogs butt-humping in San Francisco doesn't mean that it's okay for humans to be gay. Homos are disgusting freaks of nature who constantly try to suck normal people into their ranks, usually by preying on the relatively young and defenseless. They spread disease through their promiscuous behavior, and are responsible for the Black Plague of the Modern Age - AIDS. They need to be removed from society like poo from the bottom of a shoe.

because it isn't something u can help, if you like someone of the same sex, and thats what makes them happy, then they should be happy with whom ever. and everyone goes through social hardships, --> African americans(they didn't choose to be black and suffer discrimination), Goths, pregnant teens. It's just life. And not everyone believes in god. and god said he is all loving and accepting of all, that includes gays! and as for the hormonal diffrences, i have no idea.... and it is shown in other species such as monkeys, there has been rare, but few instances!,
It's just the way god works!

because it destroys families and thus the basis of any civilization. It creates unstability which will lead to greater social problems in the next generations. Increased crime, drug and alchol abuse. Pretty much it does nothing postive for anyone.

True homosexuality is caused by a transgenic flaw designed to prevent other genes from being propogated. A similar but slightly varied transgenic flaw is what results in transexual behavior. They can't control it, it's built in. It could be cured but the technology doesn't exist yet.

Yes. I've read that male rats, when overcrowded, exhibit homosexual behaviour. Coincidentally(?) San Francisco is quite a crowded city...
