I want to get an estimate of how much I need to save for gas each month. I'll be driving 80 miles a week, for a total of about 320 miles a month. Let's round up and have gas prices be $3.00 per gallon. I drive a 1996 Honda. Let's say that I'll drive on average, at 45 miles per hour.

I just need an ESTIMATE of how much I'll need to spend on gas.

320 miles/month
23 miles/gallon = 13.9 gallons/month

13.9 gallons/month * 3.00$/gallon = $41/month

The answer actually depends on the average mileage (miles per gallon) you get on your car, say X.

Then fuel used for 320 miles a month = 320 / X

Amount = 320x3 / X = 960 / X

Your mileage would probably range between 20 and 40 mpg

So your range of expenses = $48 to $24 per month

It depends on the gas mileage your 96 Honda gets at 45 miles per hour. Most cars are at their peak fuel efficiency at 60 miles per hour. Some of the larger Hondas only get around 27 miles per gallon, and some of the hybrids get 50+. Lots of variables. But just take the total miles you will travel, divide it by the miles per gallon, and times it by the price of gas per gallon.

If your car gets 45 miles per gallon, then it would be:
(320/45)*3.00
so that's $21.33
so I would ESTIMATE that to be about $20

How many miles per gallon do you get? If it's low for a Honda, say 32mpg, then 320 miles would take 10 gallons of gas per month, or about $30 per month.

It is just an estimate. But if you get 30mpg with your Honda. Then you will use just under 11 gallons a month or $33 in gasoline. But just check your own mileage since it varies with car and driver and even time or year and see for yourself. Fill up your tank, record the mileage and then drive like normal and fill up again and determine your mileage.
