The largest unbranched flower is the corpse flower (Amorphophallus titanum). It's flower can reach over 3 meters tall, taller than most people. It got its name because it smells very very bad. The largest single flower is the Rafflesia arnoldii, found in the rainforests of Sumatra, Borneo.and parts of Indonesia. It may have a diameter of almost a meter and can weight up to 11 kilograms. It lives as a parasite and it also smells pretty bad.

Rafflesia arnoldii is a member of the genus Rafflesia. It is noted for producing the largest individual flower on earth. There are some plants with larger flowering organs, the Titan Arum and Talipot palm, but these are technically clusters of many flowers. It occurs only in the rainforests of Sumatra and Borneo in the Indonesia Archipelago.

Amorphophallus titanum is the largest flowering plant in the world. The common name is "Titan" because it grows so big. Another name is "Mr. Stinky" because when it blooms it emits an odor which exactly mimics those of rotting flesh. This putrid order attracts carrion beetles that pollinate the flower.
After seven years, our plant grew its first flower. The flower may grow up to 4 feet wide and 7 feet tall. And it usually grows up to half a foot per day. Ours opened 55 inches tall, and over 40 inches wide.

A Young Woman beggining to Blossom.
And its the 'Corpse Flower' - That is the largest in the world - and can only blossom every 5 years because that is how long it takes for it to muster up the energy to blossom. It also smells absolutely putrid! So the name is quite appropriate.
