Why do offices use neon lights?

Is it because they bother the eyes less or is it because its more economical? or why else?

I've never worked in an office with neon lights, sounds like a fun place!

Most places I worked had fluorescent lights, which bother my eyes MORE, but cost a whole lot less to run.

I think you might mean fluorsecent lights (the long, skinny white bulbs). Neon lights are the brightly colored one that are used to make beer signs, hotel signs, etc.

The main reason flourescent lights are used is because they are more economical. Fluorescent bulbs use 66% less energy than a regular incandescent bulb (like you'd find in a lamp at home). They also last ten times longer than incandescent bulbs.

I personally hate fluroescent lights. They have such an ugly, unnatural light, but I guess it is better for the Earth.

It's not neon, its fluorescent lights, the tubes are filled with fluorescent gas, and when electricity is passed through, it generates white light, like neon gas, but the color that neon makes is red. fluorescent lights use less energy than regular light bulbs, and last a bit longer. It's pretty much the same on strain of the eyes.

They are fluorescent lights, not neon. They have a much longer life, they don't heat up very much or pull as much electricity, and they aren't as glaring on the eyes. They're also easier to change.

I don't think any/many use neon - most seem to use fluorescent lights. They are way cheaper to use than incandescent.

I think you mean florescent which is harder on your eyes than incandescent (like at home) but it's a lot cheaper.

NEON!? you mean florescent? because its more efficient and cleaner light. looks better too. more bright.
