Well for over 40 years I have been repairing cars. I have never heard of this befor.
The gear oil in a manual trans never gets out of the case and thus it never in a sence break down. In the gear box the oil is best kepted in the case.
So to answer the question you have to look at the oil
First Castrol: It is a good oil but you have to remember what you need is something like 90 wight oil
Castrol Is good
Now Havoline: It to is a good oil. What it comes down to is what brand you like best.

In this case eather brand will do the job and work well.
It all comes down to what brand you like best

Me I like Havoline, only because that is what in my service truck
The truck has been through 4 cluches now and it still shifts like the day I got it. The gear box has been checked to see if any has been lost over 189,000 miles and I still havent had to add any.

Thank you for your question and I hope this helps you in some way

Check your owners manual for the type of fluid recommended. Alot of late model GM's call for GM Syncromesh Fluid. or Automatic Transmission fluid. If thats what your owners manual says, then thats what you should put in. It's specifically formulated for GM's and is a superior quality fluid...............
Keep in mind that in a manual transmission, the fluid is for lubrication only. It's not subjected to the harsh environments like engine oil or an Automatic Transmissions. The right fluid as per owners manual is all you need !!!!!!!!!!!!!
Using Mobil Synthetic gear oil is ok IF your tranny uses gear oil. If not, then NO..........

That's a perfect application for synthetic oil like Mobil One. A manual transmission shifts much better in really cold weather with synthetic oil. Of course the transmission gears will last longer, and your gas mileage should improve slightly, although not a measurable amount.

Using a good oil is only half the equasion. More important than the minor quality differences between two good oils is how clean you are able to keep it.

I'm told Kendal racing gear oil is the best.
