Good question. A singularity, however, refers to a discontinuity, a point at which the laws of physics appear not apply, so to speak. Like a number divided by 0, it is called infinity, but can as well be described as infinitesimal.

A singularity has no volume so how could anything be "inside" a singularity?

Time came into existence with the big bang, there is no sense talking about what happened "before" it.
